Textile Migrants- An Ecological Tale
The story
Textile Migrants is a stop-motion animation and filmed performance following handmade textile creatures through a journey of forced displacement. After going through a violent process of border control, the survivors reach a new world. Returning home isn't possible and old connections are now gone. The film follows these creatures as they find new ways of communicating with an unfamiliar environment and build new relationships and identities that grow out of who they were.
The puppets
The puppets are thermochromic and hydrochromic, their colour and texture shift with light, heat, and water rather than holding one fixed appearance. The project grows out of Sabrina's practice-led PhD in Design at the Royal College of Art, where she first researched puppetry's "weird materials," and extends that enquiry into a question of kinship: identity and belonging as something made and remade in relation to others, not a fixed possession.
